Liposuction questions
Is liposuction a weight-loss procedure?
No. Liposuction removes localised fat to change shape. It works best when you are near your goal weight and have specific areas that do not respond to exercise.
Will liposuction tighten loose skin?
Only slightly. Skin with good elasticity contracts over the treated area, but stretched skin after pregnancy usually needs a tummy tuck to remove it.
Does the fat come back?
The fat cells removed do not regrow. Significant weight gain can still enlarge the remaining fat cells in treated and untreated areas.
How long is liposuction recovery?
Most patients return to desk work within a week and wear a compression garment for four to six weeks. Swelling settles over several months, and the final contour shows at around three to six months.
Can liposuction be combined with other procedures?
